I love showing visitors around our beautiful isles, telling them of our long, varied history, our  culture, customs, myths and legends - and showing them sandy beaches and soaring cliffs.

From Sumburgh in the southern tip of the Mainland to Skaw in Unst, the most northerly island of the United Kingdom, I will take you there in my comfortable, air-conditioned 7-seater vehicle. I can also step-on to your own vehicle – coach or car – and be your guide. In addition, I conduct walks around old Lerwick.

The son of a fisherman, I was born in Lerwick.  Although I went to school in Aberdeen, I have lived in Shetland for most of my life.  In fact, while growing up in the city, I was back home to Shetland most summers.

I first became a tour guide in 1993 and I am a founder-member of the Shetland Islands Tourist Guide Association, and its current Vice-Chairman. I am a fully-qualified Green Badge tour guide and a member of the Scottish Tourist Guide Association.

While studying at University I wrote my Honours History dissertation on developments in Orkney and Shetland during the 19th century.

After teaching in Glasgow for several years, I returned to Shetland in 2014 and settled in Unst, having taught in the school there before. There, I became involved in the local community. I am a director of a local development company, a trustee of the local heritage centre and a member of our writers group and book group.

I am also a stand-up comedian, having performed for the past five years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2016 I joined the Imposters, a newly formed improvised comedy group in Shetland.

Having enjoyed years of teaching History & ICT, I now want to let people see what is so unique, interesting and fascinating about my island home.
